What to do in Charleston

South Carolina is an extremely beautiful state. It's literally shaped like a diamond. I recently went to the city of Charleston and spent some time there and came up with a list of things to do when you visit the historic city yourself!

  1. Take a Walking Tour This is one way to learn about the history of Charleston. You can take the tour on foot with a guide who will show you along the streets of the city. There are also carriage tours as well. 
  2. Stick your feet in one of the fountains. On a hot and humid day in Charleston, you'll want to cool off in one of the fountains near the shore. I dipped my feet into this pineapple one, and it felt extremely refreshing
  3. Go walking at night While you can see a ton of cool things during the day, the city gives a different experience when the sun goes down. 
  4. Stop at the Market The market holds so many local vendors and it's really fun to see how creative people can be! 
  5. Visit the Hunley An old submarine was found right off the coast of Charleston, and you can visit it and take a tour to see it
  6. See Rainbow Row It's kind of a landmark, and you have to do it! 
  7. Grab some ice. There are shaved ice carts all around the city, I believe they're all students raising money for college (which is actually located in Charleston itself!) 
  8. Visit Plantations There is an entire street loaded with plantations that guests can tour. Though I didn't go on this trip, they look amazing and I would love to the next time I'm around! 
  9. Eat at Jestine's and Hyman's. I can't mention one and not say the other, as they're both my favorite spots to eat in the city! 
  10. Visit the Churches. It's not called the 'Holy City' for nothing! Charleston is decorated with amazing architecture and the churches are so pretty. 
You can find a ton of information just by googling some of these spots! I loved spending time in Charleston, and while I may have been there a few days too long, I would still go back!

Doors of Charleston

Walking along the narrow streets of Charleston, South Carolina it's easy to see how different and unique every house is. Aside from street numbers, almost every house has a different door color. For some reason, I said "I really like doors" and the entire time we were in Charleston everyone pointed out different doors for me. They were really beautiful, and I have enough pictures of doors to build a village...almost.

After walking around the streets looking at all of the different doors, I started to really like the red doors and wanted my photo taken in front of one by the end of the trip (so pic credit to my mom!)

This door might look pretty familiar to you if you have a pinterest account, my sister had one bucket list item to see while we were in the city, and it took us the entire 2 weeks to find it on our last day. This was the most excited she had been the entire trip.

 I mean, I don't blame her, this house has such beautiful color and character. Shortly after leaving this spot, I thought about the person who lives there and how it must feel to have a house that is so popular and pinned countlessly by the internet! We also saw a few doors at dusk, which was a lovely time to walk around the city as it wasn't too hot with the sun in the sky!

 I've talked a lot about the history of Charleston, but it's so interesting to me and I really enjoyed every minute that I was there (aside from being stuck at an auto shop for over 3 hours). While nobody invited us inside for iced tea or lemonade, we had a lovely time taking it all in.

Finding Adventure

There is no better feeling than the first day of spring time warmth in Wisconsin. There is also no better feeling than not having a plan and just driving around with a nice camera in the passenger seat. 

The other weekend, I made the decision to bring my car from home to my University. Yes, being in the dorms is fun, but there are only so many places you can go, and frankly I'm one of those people who just can't sit still and when I'm some place new I really want to explore it. After spending a few hours on Google Maps, I scoped out a few spots that I knew I wanted to hit. After buying a snack from the shop, I set out to find the perfect picture spots. 
First, I came to this lovely bridge. The walk across it was quite windy but the sun was out, so who am I to complain? It also made for some lovely snaps anyway.






As I drove away from the bridge, being downtown a bit, I spotted a beautiful church upon a hill. Finding a way to get there was quite the adventure, as I have no idea which turns lead where in this town yet! I eventually managed to find it and get a nice snap! Perhaps I'll bring someone along next time to help me capture a few more. 


This is the point in the adventure where I turned off my phone's navigating system for a bit and let the roads take me. With this, I managed to find an ice cream shop and a couple of old buildings. I decided to park and see where I could go next before I got too far away. I found a lovely little park, which was very nice to walk around in...have I mentioned how nice the sun felt? 

Afterwards, my little red car brought me to one of the popular look out places. I had heard it held beautiful views of the city. Every single description of that place was correct. Though it is still winter, the snow is still very much present, the view was still stunning. And I mentally marked this place as one to come back to when the leaves are on the trees and in Autumn when the leaves are changing. I sat there for a while, letting the wind whip my hair around, and just not caring too deeply about anything. It felt great. 



I ended the day at a coffee shop, bought an ice tea and sat there for awhile. 
Though I didn't hit all of the scenic spots in town that day, I do have my car with me until the rest of the semester, so I will be able to find a few more, maybe return again, and don't worry, I will share them all with you!

It felt great to get out and finally do a bit of exploring! Have you ever explored your town or the next town over just to see it? You could find something totally new if you did!

I haven't done a tag in quite some time, but when I saw this one pop up over at Olivia's blog , I thought I would give it a shot. 

Where have you traveled to and where would you like to go again?
I've traveled to 33/50 of the states in America; would you really like me to list them all? I've also been to the Bahamas, St Thomas, St Maarten, Italy, Greece, Turkey. I'm probably even missing one. 

Where was your first plane journey to?
Florida

You're leaving tomorrow, money is no object, where would you go?
That's a tough decision! I do want to go to England really badly, but I would also love to see New Zealand!

Preferred Method of Travel?
Car. You can see so much more when you drive and you can take stops on the way to the real destination! Although I don't mind a plane, they seem too stuffy if the trip is really long. 

Top Three Travel Items?
My ipod, a magazine and a camera

Favorite Travel website?
Tripadvisor, my family uses that quite a bit to find out where to eat and places to add to the list of things to see!

Where would you travel just to eat the food?
Italy. The food is just incredible. Makes me hungry just thinking about it. 

Is there a place you would never go again?
No, I don't think so. I think there are places that I wouldn't rush back to but maybe visit further in the future. 

Can you recite your passport number if asked?
Um..no

Do you prefer middle, window or aisle seat?
I like the window seat, just because I can see everything, but I don't mind the aisle. I haven't really sat in a spot that ever put me in the middle seat. Lucky me. 

How do you pass time on a plane?
I usually read a magazine or a book, or listen to music and look out the window. Munch on some snacks, and if the ride is long then I can watch a movie!
