Historic Walks

1:00:00 PM

You never know what your town has to offer. But do you ever wonder about the people that used to live there?
Way before you, years and years ago?

Recently, during my birthday weekend, after sleeping for ten hours because I was feeling poorly, my dad, his girlfriend and I went out on a little adventure.
When you're ill it's good to get out of the house, if you're feeling up for it.
The weather was so nice out and I felt bad having to stay inside because I wasn't feeling the best. So I decided to tag along.
We went to the Art Museum in my town, it sits on a steep hill and it's in a beautiful building.

In the front is a large garden, filled with sculptures and statues.  The only time I was ever at the museum was when I took trips for school, therefore we hadn't really had the chance to explore the gardens.

This museum, is known for it's "Birds in Arts" Pieces done by artists from different places and different eras. It was really neat seeing the different pieces, as I'm not extremely artistic, and I'm really impressed with anyone who can draw on such a great level!

I mostly loved the Owl pieces, as they're my favorite birds. I could stare at them for hours!
The paintings, drawings and sculptures were all great!
After wandering around the museum for a bit, we had to make a decision, go home or go on a little drive. We decided on the drive and stopped at an island near the downtown portion of my town!
It was so beautiful looking at the scenery in a part of town that I had never actually been to before.
There's a historic walk, with signs that tell the story of what happened around that area many years ago.

It was gorgeous scenery, and it was very interesting to learn about the logging that happened on the rivers.
The adventure also had me thinking about what people would be like back in the olden days, what would it be like with wagons pulling up to a shop, or a train rolling through town.

After the walk, being a bit poorly yet, I was tired and ready to head home in hopes of taking a quick nap or even a nice hot bath.

I hope you all are having great Septembers so far!
Thanks for reading!
I love reading your comments! Make sure to follow me on bloglovin and I'll follow you right back!

Impromptu Trip Up North

2:00:00 PM

The best kind of trips are the ones that aren't planned. The ones that come up as an idea the night before.
That's what happened this week on Thursday.

There's a small town about two hours north of my own filled with fun things to do during the Summer. It's the cutest town! I haven't gone up there for a long time and I was very excited to be headed up there this time!
My mom, sister and I packed up the car around 8 in the morning, dropped Sadie off at my grandparents for the afternoon and went off on our adventure. The first stop was at a Wildlife Park. The one we went to has been around for ages! The majority of people who go there are families with younger kids, but I did see a few teenagers there just for the record. The first thing you see when you walk in is a gathering of goats, baby goats to older goats. They're all so cute! They were going crazy when people started feeding them.

There's a covered area where the array of baby animals is kept. One of the workers was holding a
Chinchilla, if you have never touched one let me tell you they are so incredibly soft!
There was an extremely large rabbit, an Armadillo, a small owl (which I wanted to break in and put in my pocket to bring home with me). There are a lot more, but I only snapped a few pictures!
There is also a pot-bellied pig and turtle that roam around. I took a picture of both, only to notice that they seem to be posing! hmm..
There is an area of baby bunnies as well, but there were so many children crowding it I wasn't able to get in.
We went on to the main area where the bigger animals were. At this zoo, guests are able to feed the Bears something called "Bear Brew" It's just soda, and it's really cool!
The bears are very patient and wait until you hold the bottle to the cage until they start drinking.
Another unique feature of the park is the deer that roam around. They used to have peacocks that would howl the entire time but I discovered they've put them in cages. The deer love being fed, and they're so cute!

The deer also have a "safe zone" where guests can't interrupt them if they want to escape to sit and relax.
It's also the place where the fawns spend most of their time as they're kind of timid towards the guests and screaming children. Who wouldn't be?
On we went, to spot more animals. They have badgers, prairie dogs, mountain lions, panthers, a white tiger,
and a lot more! There is even a bird area where you enter and it's full of colorful birds that fly freely. I even got the opportunity to feed some! They came right onto my hand and arm! It was the weirdest and coolest thing. The birds eat off a Popsicle stick that has seeds stuck to it with peanut butter.
I was also wearing my sandals with colorful beads and they seemed to think they were food too.
It was really cool! I've never done that before and I'm glad I did!
We moved on to what I thought would be even more exciting..
Feeding Giraffes!
The park has two young giraffes, I think the man said one was two years old and the other was almost a year! I'm not completely sure but they were so cute!
Giraffes have long, purple-black tongues and the only way to describe what they feel like is comparing it to a cats tongue, only a little less rough!

If you follow me on Instagram, this is the photo I put up of the day!
It was so much fun, I'm feeding them carrots. Apparently if you're not careful to keep the cup away from the giraffes, they will eat it. Don't worry, I did give some to the smaller one as well!
There were loads of other animals after visiting the giraffes. Zebras, Camels, Kangaroos, Lemurs and a lot more I just either can't spell or don't feel like listing!
There were some really small cute monkeys that were enthralled with sticking their tongues out at me once I had stuck mine out at them.
I even got to measure how long my wing span is, before going to see my favorites, Owls!
The Great Horned Owl was sitting closest to the path in its cage, it opened an eye at me and turned its head.
For those wondering, why are these birds here?
There was a sign to explain.
If you can't read that, it says that all the birds that are there, have had such bad injuries that they couldn't be placed back into the wild to survive on their own.
We went on to see the other animals, including some very naughty brown pigeons.
Guess they'll have to expand that cage.
We visited another one of my favorites, the foxes. I know what the fox says, it screams actually and
if you don't know what it is, it can actually scar you for days!
We walked back through the way we came and I posed for a picture with the turtle!
And chatted up some more goats, before we headed off into town for food and shopping!
I was actually really excited to go to the beach and lay in the sun. We stopped at a brewery to eat, I ordered a grilled cheese and it was so good!
I was too hungry to photograph my mom or my sisters meals! We then finished up and went out shopping.
It's not a very big town, but most of the people who stay up there are camping and enjoying the lake so it really doesn't have to be.
We stopped in the fudge factory, though I wasn't feeling any fudge or anything that sweet. It's still nice to look!

We did stop and buy some popcorn though at the popcorn shop! They sell a ton of different types of popcorn, it's really neat! We then moved in and out of shops before unwinding at the beach.

It was so relaxing, and a good way to end the impromptu quick trip up north.
I hope you enjoyed the blog and that you all had great weekends! Sorry I didn't
have a mid-week one! I was pretty busy! I'm already working on another one right now!

10 facts about me

Get to Know Me!/10 things

9:21:00 PM

I was going to do the whole "About Me" page but I thought I would just make it a whole blog post instead! So let's get started shall we?
I'm Kenzie, I'm from the States, Wisconsin to be exact. I kind of like it here except when the weather is way to cold to go outside!

1.) I used to write stories all of the time. Just about random things, I would love the characters and I really loved how I wouldn't even know the ending until I wrote it. I got really into it until school came along and soaked all of the creativity right out of me. I think I'm going to make a bigger effort to start writing again this summer, and maybe I'll even post a short story on here! Let me know what you think!
2.) I love animals. I really do. All except spiders, I mean they're nice from behind a glass window but I can do without seeing them. I also dislike baboons now, thanks to a previous trip to a zoo. I'm obsessed with owls currently, and animals in tophats.
I did just purchase these two owls at Gordman's a few weeks ago! Aren't they cute! Owls make me so happy(don't worry I still love dogs especially Sadie but owls just idk)

3.) I love traveling. I don't really think ''love'' is an accurate description of it. Ever since I was young I have been traveling. My goal is to go to all 50 states in the US, right now I have 33 out of 50! I'm in love with the U.K even though I've never been there. It's always been somewhere I feel like I have to go and it's impossible to describe why or how but I just have to be there.
4.) I love getting to know people from all over the world. I think that's one of the coolest things about the internet! I mean I love that people can read these words I'm typing from places that I've never been to before!
5.) Along with getting to know people and making friends, I'm really shy. But after awhile I'll warm up and become more comfortable!
6.) I can't stop listening to One Direction's Better Than Words at the moment. It's my favorite song off their new album.
7.) I can't shop at one place for very long. I like shopping don't get me wrong but the standing and waiting for someone to be done...no thanks.
8.) I actually really don't like to party. I know that seems so weird because I'm in college but I just don't like it but I'll still go.
9.) I dislike mushrooms. A lot.
10.) I prefer driving to flying places. It's much more fun to see more things that flying just skips over.

I hope you liked this post! I know it's a bit more personal but I hope it helps you get to know who I am a little better! I'd like to know 10 things about yourself too! Also if you have a blog link it to me! I would love to read it! :) x

Winter Favorites

12:00:00 PM

Since Winter is almost over (hopefully) I thought I'd share some of my favorite things that I've been loving!

First, is this owl mug. I love drinking tea or apple cider especially when it's below zero and I'm obsessed with owls! It's a happy combination for the not-so-happy weather!
Second, is this gold nail polish by Maurices and a sparkly over-coat called "Holiday Rebel" from Target. I used these two colors for the holiday season because they made me feel more christmassy!
This also makes me really want Tanya Burr's new nail polish I really need to try it! If you have it what color is your favorite??
This is Big Ben. It's also a pencil sharpener but I don't want to make it dirty so I like to have it on my desk. Since my goal is to get to London and see this (and many other things) in real life! It's a nice little reminder that I can get there! ..hopefully sooner than later.

Okay now for clothes and accessories! This is my scarf bin. I have a lot, and I've gotten a lot of them for presents so I'm not really sure where all of them have come from!
The scarves below are all my infinity scarves, I love these for the winter especially when it gets really cold! I usually grab the red one because it matches a lot of the shirts I have and the others I usually wear with a plain colored shirt!

Aside from the infinity scarves I also wear these regular scarves! The one in the middle is the biggest as it's bunched up, it's from H&M one of my favorite stores!

Some of my favorite necklaces are my animal necklaces! These first three are owls!
This one was given to me by my Great Aunt and I love it! I wear it a lot!

This is the newest of my collection, I love wearing him because he has a little clock inside! I haven't set it yet though (That's why there's an orange tag at the side)

And this one I wear the most, if I need some good luck I like to have this one on me!

These are my only elephant necklaces but I like how they're both unique!

This last one is my ultimate favorite. I got it in Greece when I went in 2012. They called it the 'Eye of Medusa' and it means good luck! And since I like good luck I like to wear it a lot!
Now for everyone's favorite, my favorite shirts!
Since my college is really cold inside I love wearing sweaters!

This one is from Old Navy. It's really nice and warm and I love foxes it's so cute!

This one is amazing I literally cannot tell you how much I adore it! I wear it with the scarf or I can wear it plain! It's by JawBreaking (shopjawbreaking.com) It's made in America and the material is SO soft. It makes me wish it was socially acceptable to wear something 7 days a week.

This pink one is also really pretty! It's got stripes on the back and a nice design on the sleeve. My favorite color is pink so you might find out my closet is 80% pink.

On the left, is a really warm blue-ish/green color that i've recently been obsessed with. And the one on the right is just a simple stripe top which I really like for lounge wear and I do wear it a lot. I believe both of these are from Target, I'm 95% sure since I shop there quite a bit.

Annnnnnd last but never least, my favorite any season is my dog (see I told you I take a lot of pictures of her but really how could I not?!)

Please leave a comment if you want to see anything else! :) I hope you guys like reading these as much as I like writing them!
